Reddit business account suspended?
Updated 21 October 2026
If your brand's Reddit account or your ad account was suspended, treat it as a business problem: save the notice, log what it costs you from today, and appeal through the right channel. If you live in the EU, the Digital Services Act gives you a statement of reasons and a free complaint, and the P2B Regulation may give extra rights to business users. A certified dispute body, Platform Control, lists Reddit.
Which account was hit?
Businesses use Reddit in a few different ways, and a decision can hit one or more of them:
- A brand or company user account that posts and comments.
- Communities you moderate, such as an official subreddit for your product.
- An ads account used to run paid campaigns, which Reddit handles through its advertising platform and its own policies.
Read the notice to see which one it concerns. While a user account is banned, Reddit's help pages say it cannot create self-serve ads. An ads policy rejection is not the same as a sitewide suspension of your user account, and the appeal route differs. If only one subreddit banned your brand, that is a decision by its volunteer moderators, so start with modmail. See the Reddit overview.
Start a loss log today
Your complaint is stronger when the impact is concrete. Keep one simple document, updated daily:
- Date and what happened (notice received, appeal sent, answer).
- Campaigns paused or cancelled, with their planned budget.
- Sales, leads or sign ups you can link to Reddit in a normal period, from your own analytics.
- Extra costs, such as staff time spent on the problem.
Only record what you can support with your own records. A short, honest log is more useful than a big estimate.
Your EU rights as a business
If you are based in the EU:
- Statement of reasons (DSA Art. 17). Reddit must tell you what it decided, the facts, the rule, whether automated tools were used, and how to challenge it. This applies to removing content, limiting visibility, ending monetisation and suspending accounts.
- Internal complaint (DSA Art. 20). Free, for at least six months from the day you were told about the decision, and not decided by automated means alone.
- Dispute body (DSA Art. 21). You can go to a certified out-of-court body with or without the internal complaint. Platform Control lists Reddit. It decides within 90 days of receiving your complaint. If you win, Reddit pays the fees and your reasonable costs.
- P2B Regulation (EU) 2019/1150, Art. 4. Business users of online intermediation services get a statement of reasons when restricted or suspended, and at least 30 days' notice before termination, with exceptions. Whether your use of Reddit is covered depends on the facts, so say it may apply when you raise it.
- GDPR Art. 15. You can ask for a copy of personal data held about you, for example as the person behind the account.
Outside the EU, Reddit's own appeal and advertiser support are your main routes.
Keep the business running
- Tell customers through your website, newsletter or other channels where to find you.
- If colleagues already moderate your community with their own accounts, they can keep it going within Reddit's rules.
- Don't create new brand accounts to replace the suspended one. Reddit can treat that as ban evasion, which puts the other accounts at risk.
- Check whether any outside agency or tool posting for you broke a rule, such as vote manipulation or spam patterns. That context belongs in your appeal.
If the appeal fails
A denied appeal still leaves the dispute body and the courts open in the EU. See Reddit appeal denied for the next steps, and use the free ban checker to see your dates.
What you stand to lose
A ban on Reddit takes more than a profile. Think about what is on the account before you decide what to do.
- Years of photos, videos and posts you may not have saved anywhere else
- Messages and contacts, sometimes the only way you reach certain people
- The followers, subscribers or community you built
- Income: sales, sponsorships, payouts and the customers who find you there
- Other apps and sites where you sign in with this account
Deadlines that are already running
- Reddit's help pages say you can appeal within six months of receiving the notice.
- Reddit's help pages say that if you don't have access to your account, you can email [email protected] from the email address you verified for it.
- Complaint to Reddit: open for at least six months from the day Reddit told you about the decision (DSA Art. 20).
- Copy of your data: free, and Reddit must answer within one month of your request (GDPR Art. 15). It is worth asking now.
Questions people ask
Is a Reddit ads account handled separately from my user account?
Reddit runs advertising through its own ads platform with its own policies and support. Reddit's help pages also say a banned user account cannot create self-serve ads, so check which account the notice is about.
Does the P2B Regulation protect my brand on Reddit?
It may. The P2B Regulation gives business users of online intermediation services a statement of reasons and, before termination, at least 30 days' notice with some exceptions. Whether it covers your Reddit use depends on the facts.
Should I log the money I lose while suspended?
Yes. A simple dated log of lost sales, cancelled campaigns and extra costs makes your complaint concrete. Only record what you can back up with documents.
Can I run my brand community from another account meanwhile?
Using another account to get around a suspension can count as ban evasion. If co-moderators or colleagues already have their own accounts, they can keep a community running, but don't create new accounts to replace the suspended one.
