Telegram appeal denied?
Updated 21 October 2026
If @SpamBot or the appeal for a frozen account said no, you still have steps left. If you live in the EU, ask Telegram for a full statement of reasons and a copy of your data. If the decision is about public channels or groups, you can also go to a certified dispute body. Court stays open in every case.
What a rejection means
Telegram usually answers in a few words. You may get no rule, no example message and no detail about who decided. That is not the end of it. The decision still has to meet EU rules, and you can ask for what is missing.
For a frozen account, time matters. Telegram's help pages say frozen accounts are deleted unless an appeal is submitted and accepted. If the account still opens, export your data today with Telegram Desktop (Settings, then Advanced, then Export Telegram data).
Step 1: ask for the reasons
The Digital Services Act (Art. 17) applies to any restriction or suspension of your account. Telegram must tell you:
- the facts it relied on,
- the rule you are said to have broken,
- whether automated tools were used,
- how you can challenge the decision.
Write to @EURegulation, the bot Telegram names as its DSA contact point for users. Quote the date of the decision and ask for each point above. Keep it calm and short. Screenshot what you send.
Step 2: get your data
Under GDPR Art. 15 you can ask for a free copy of your personal data. Telegram must answer within one month, with up to two more months for complex requests if it tells you why. Use @EURegulation, or the GDPR form of EDPO, Telegram's representative in Brussels. The second works even if you can't sign in. Your data can show what Telegram recorded about the messages or reports behind the decision.
Step 3: a dispute body, where it applies
Telegram says only some non-essential parts of its service may count as an online platform. Its DSA reports give online-platform figures only for its public communities, meaning public channels and groups. So:
- Public channels or groups. If the decision removed or restricted a public channel or group, or banned your account for what you did there, you can take it to a certified out-of-court body (DSA Art. 21). It is free or costs a nominal fee. If you win, Telegram pays the fees. The body decides within 90 days of a complete complaint. The decision is not binding, but Telegram must engage in good faith.
- Private messages only. For a spam limit on chats with strangers, this route may not apply. Rely on steps 1 and 2.
No body on the European Commission's list names Telegram. Some certified bodies list Telegram on their own sites. Use the dispute body finder and ask the body before you send everything.
Step 4: court
The right to go to court stays. With the reasons and your data in hand, you know what you would be arguing about.
Outside the EU, these legal steps are not open to you. A new appeal with new facts is then the only route.
A second appeal with new facts
If you have something Telegram didn't know, send it once more through @SpamBot:
- proof that your account was hacked, with dates,
- proof that you got the number recently, for example a contract date,
- context showing the messages were wanted, such as people asking you to write.
See banned by mistake on Telegram for how to show this. For the time limits, read how long a Telegram ban lasts. More on the Telegram hub.
What you stand to lose
A ban on Telegram takes more than a profile. Think about what is on the account before you decide what to do.
- Years of photos, videos and posts you may not have saved anywhere else
- Messages and contacts, sometimes the only way you reach certain people
- The followers, subscribers or community you built
- Income: sales, sponsorships, payouts and the customers who find you there
- Other apps and sites where you sign in with this account
On Telegram specifically
- Telegram's developer pages say frozen accounts are deleted after a set time, unless an appeal is submitted and accepted.
- Your Stars. Telegram's Stars terms say that if your account is terminated, your remaining Star balance is forfeit and Telegram does not compensate you.
- Telegram Premium and Telegram Business. Telegram's terms say a ban can mean you lose their benefits, with no compensation.
- Channel earnings. Telegram's creator terms say that if you lose access to your account or channel, all pending balances are forfeit.
- Usernames bought on Fragment. Fragment's terms say it may become impossible to link a collectible username to a restricted or deleted account, though you still own it.
Deadlines that are already running
- Telegram's app says a frozen account will be deleted unless you appeal through @SpamBot before the date it shows. Telegram's pages name no other time limit.
- Copy of your data: free, and Telegram must answer within one month of your request (GDPR Art. 15). It is worth asking now.
Questions people ask
Can I appeal again after @SpamBot rejected me?
Telegram doesn't say how many times you can appeal. Sending the same text again rarely changes anything. Only write again if you have something new, such as proof your account was hacked or that the number was recycled.
What happens to a frozen account when the appeal is rejected?
Telegram's help pages say frozen accounts are deleted after a set time unless an appeal is submitted and accepted. A rejection means deletion may follow. Get your data out now if the account still opens.
Can a dispute body overturn Telegram's decision?
A certified body can review the decision and give a view, but it is not binding. Telegram must engage in good faith. It clearly applies to decisions about public channels and groups; for private messaging limits it may not apply.
Can I take Telegram to court?
Yes, the right to go to court stays open whatever the appeal said. A court case costs time and money, so get the statement of reasons and your data first. They are the evidence you would need.
