Permanently banned from Discord?

Updated 21 October 2026

Why acting early matters: Discord's help pages say a permanently suspended user has a grace period to appeal. After it, the username is made available again. Discord does not say how long the grace period is. The longer an account is down, the more followers, customers and conversations move on. See what is at stake

A permanent Discord ban means Discord will not lift it on a timer. It does not mean every door is closed. You can still appeal through Discord. If you live in the EU, you have a free internal complaint for at least six months from the day you were told about the decision, the right to a clear statement of reasons, the option of a certified dispute body, your data rights, and the courts. Don't open a new account while you use them.

Check that it is really a Discord ban

Many people searching for this were banned permanently from a server, not from Discord. A server ban:

Discord's help pages call a Discord ban a permanent suspension. It does not expire and you lose the account, but there is a grace period to appeal, after which your username can be given to someone else. If that is your case, read on. If not, the Discord overview explains server bans.

What permanent means legally

A permanent ban is Discord's decision, made under its own terms. If you live in the EU, it is still covered by the Digital Services Act like any other account decision:

Your options, step by step

  1. Save everything. The login message, emails from Discord, and any notice in account standing.
  2. Appeal through Discord. Name the content if you know it, explain why it does not fit the rule, and give context a reviewer cannot see.
  3. Request your data. Under GDPR Art. 15 you get a free copy of your personal data, answered within one month or up to two more months for complex requests with a reason. It also preserves your messages and files.
  4. Go to a dispute body under DSA Art. 21, with or without the internal appeal. No certified body lists Discord by name yet, but general bodies may take your case. Free or a nominal fee, a decision within 90 days of receiving your complaint, and Discord pays your reasonable costs if you win. Use the dispute body finder.
  5. Court remains possible.

Outside the EU, Discord's appeal is the main route.

If you ran communities

Losing your account can leave servers without an owner who can act. If co-admins already have the right permissions, they can keep things running. Tell your members through another channel what is going on, without naming or blaming the people you think reported you. If the servers earned money, see Discord business accounts.

What makes it harder

If the ban followed a hack or a false age report, read banned by mistake on Discord.

What you stand to lose

A ban on Discord takes more than a profile. Think about what is on the account before you decide what to do.

  • Years of photos, videos and posts you may not have saved anywhere else
  • Messages and contacts, sometimes the only way you reach certain people
  • The followers, subscribers or community you built
  • Income: sales, sponsorships, payouts and the customers who find you there
  • Other apps and sites where you sign in with this account

On Discord specifically

  • Discord's help pages say permanent suspensions do not expire and the user loses the account.
  • Your username. Discord's help pages say it is made available to others once the appeal grace period ends.
  • Nitro and other purchases. Discord's paid services terms say that if your account is terminated or suspended, you are not entitled to a refund for the unused part of a subscription or for lost virtual goods.

Deadlines that are already running

  • Discord's help pages say a permanently suspended user has a grace period to appeal. After it, the username is made available again. Discord does not say how long the grace period is.
  • Complaint to Discord: open for at least six months from the day Discord told you about the decision (DSA Art. 20).
  • Copy of your data: free, and Discord must answer within one month of your request (GDPR Art. 15). It is worth asking now.

Questions people ask

Can a permanent Discord ban be lifted?

Discord can reverse its own decision, for example after an appeal. In the EU, it must reverse a decision without undue delay if your complaint shows it was wrong. Nobody can guarantee the result.

Can I make a new Discord account after a permanent ban?

Creating a new account to get around a Discord action can lead to that account being banned too, and it weakens any complaint about the original decision. Use the appeal routes instead.

What happens to the servers I own after a permanent Discord ban?

You lose the ability to manage them while the account is banned. If you can, make sure a trusted admin can run each server. Discord may also act on a server separately if it was part of the reason.

I was permanently banned from a Discord server. Is my account banned?

No. A permanent server ban only covers that server and is set by its moderators. Your Discord account still works in every other server.
