Discord disabled your account for suspicious activity

When Discord disables an account for suspicious activity, it usually thinks someone else may have got in. That is a security step, not always a finding that you broke the rules. Secure your email first, look for Discord's email and its password reset link, and send a ticket through Discord's hacked account form if you are still locked out. If you live in the EU and Discord treats it as a rule break, you have free complaint rights.

What this message means

Discord watches for signs that an account is no longer in its owner's hands: logins from unusual places, a sudden wave of spam DMs, or a token used by someone else. Users who got this notice report an email from Discord saying it believes the account may have been compromised.

Other causes can look similar. Discord forbids self-bots (scripts that automate a normal account) and can end accounts that use them. A bank's fraud report on a Discord purchase can also lead to a suspension while Discord investigates.

Security lock or rule break?

Read every email from Discord, including spam. The wording tells you which path you are on.

Some people get both emails. Then do both steps.

What to do now

  1. Secure your email account. Change its password and turn on two-step login. Whoever controls the email controls the Discord account.
  2. Look for the "Discord Email Address changed" email. Discord says its link lets you undo an email change.
  3. Use the reset link in Discord's suspicious activity email, if you got one. Pick a new password you have never used anywhere.
  4. Still disabled? Send a ticket at dis.gd/hackedaccount. Say when you lost control, what you saw, and that the account is secure now. Attach screenshots.
  5. For a fraud or rules suspension, appeal through dis.gd/request, the link in the violation notice, or User Settings, My Account, Standing.
  6. Do not open new tickets every day. One clear ticket is easier to follow.
  7. Do not create a new account while you wait. Discord can treat it as getting around a decision.

If you are sure Discord got it wrong, read Discord banned by mistake.

The EU route

If you live in the EU, the Digital Services Act (DSA) applies when Discord suspends or closes your account because it says you broke its Terms or posted illegal content. Discord's help says its DSA appeals cover decisions made because content is illegal or breaks its Terms, so a pure security lock may not count.

Outside the EU, Discord's hacked account form and appeal are your main routes. More on the Discord page.

Watch out for scams

Discord says its staff never contact you through the app. A DM from "Discord Support" or a friend offering to "appeal" your account is a scam. Never share your password, login codes or token.

Questions people ask

Why did Discord disable my account for suspicious activity?

Usually because Discord's systems think someone else got into the account, for example through a reused password, a fake login page or a stolen token. Spam sent from your account, self-bots and a bank's fraud report on a purchase can also lead to a suspension.

Will resetting my password get my Discord account back?

Sometimes. Users report that Discord's email about suspicious activity includes a password reset link, and that resetting brought some accounts back while others stayed disabled. If it does not work, send a ticket through Discord's hacked account form.

Someone hacked me and spammed my friends. Am I banned for that?

Discord can act on what was sent from your account, even if a hacker sent it. Say clearly in your ticket that the account was taken over, when it happened, and what you have done to secure it. Screenshots of email change notices or unknown logins help.

Can a Discord employee message me to fix my account?

No. Discord says its staff never contact users through the Discord app for support. Anyone who DMs you offering to appeal or restore your account is a scammer.
