Discord says your account is suspended or disabled
Your account is suspended
Messages like "Your account is suspended", or older ones saying your account has been disabled, mean Discord itself has blocked your whole account, not just one server. You can still log in to see your violations, but not use your friends list and servers. Screenshot the screen, appeal through Account Standing or the form link in the violation notice, and if you live in the EU, use your free complaint rights.
What this message means
Discord's Trust and Safety team or its automated systems decided that your account, a message, or a server you run breaks its Terms of Service or Community Guidelines. Discord's help pages now call this a suspension. A suspended account can only be used to view its account standing. If a server you own was part of the violation, Discord can remove or restrict it too.
There is a separate notice for accounts disabled because of suspicious activity, which is about security. This page covers the rules-based one.
What it does not mean
- It is not a server ban. Volunteer moderators did not decide this.
- It does not mean a person read your messages before the decision.
- It does not take away your right to appeal.
What to do now
- Screenshot the message and note the date, your username and email.
- Check your email for a message from Discord with more detail.
- Log in and open Account Standing. Discord says a suspended account can still see its violations and how long the suspension lasts, and request a review.
- Appeal with Let us know or the form link in the violation notice. Be short and specific. Name the server or message if you know it, and give context.
- Hand over your servers if you can: ask a trusted co-admin to keep things running.
- Do not make a new account. Discord can disable new accounts used to get around a decision.
If you think you were disabled because of a hacked account or a false report, read Discord banned by mistake.
The EU route
If you live in the EU, the Digital Services Act (DSA) applies to Discord's decisions:
- Discord must give a clear statement of reasons: the facts, the rule, whether automated tools were used, and how to challenge it.
- You can file a free internal complaint for at least six months, not decided by automated means alone. A wrong decision must be reversed without undue delay.
- No certified dispute body lists Discord by name yet, but general certified bodies may still take your case.
- The GDPR gives you a free copy of your data within one month.
- Court stays open.
Outside the EU, Discord's own appeal is your main route. More on the Discord page.
Watch out for scams
Fake "Discord staff" accounts and "unban services" target disabled users. Discord staff do not ask for your password or payment. Never share login codes or pay anyone.
Questions people ask
Is a disabled Discord account different from a server ban?
Yes. A server ban comes from that server's moderators and only blocks you from one server. A disabled account is Discord's own decision and blocks the whole account.
How do I appeal a disabled Discord account?
Every violation notice from Discord links to a review form. In the app you can also open User Settings, My Account, Standing, pick the violation and choose Let us know. Explain briefly why the decision is wrong and keep a copy of what you send.
Can I get my Discord messages back?
If you live in the EU, you can ask Discord for a free copy of your personal data under the GDPR. Discord must answer within one month, or within three months for complex requests if it tells you why.
Is there a dispute body for Discord in the EU?
No certified body lists Discord by name yet. General certified dispute bodies may still accept the case. Your internal complaint and the courts remain open.
