YouTube appeal denied?
Updated 21 October 2026
When YouTube rejects your appeal, the in-app route is usually over, but if you live in the EU you still have real options. You can take the decision to a certified out-of-court dispute body that lists YouTube, ask for a full statement of reasons, request a copy of your data, and keep court as a last resort. Save the rejection email with its date and time before you do anything else.
Read the rejection against the original notice
Put the two messages side by side. Note:
- whether either message names the video, the time stamp or the behaviour,
- the exact policy named,
- whether YouTube says automated tools were involved,
- how long YouTube took to answer.
A rejection that repeats a policy name with no facts is weak. That matters, because under EU law the explanation and the review both have to meet a standard.
Option 1: a certified dispute body
If you live in the EU, the Digital Services Act lets you take YouTube's decision to a certified out-of-court dispute settlement body. Appeals Centre Europe, User Rights and Platform Control all list YouTube.
- It is free for you or costs a nominal fee.
- If you win, YouTube pays the fees and your reasonable costs.
- The body decides within 90 days of receiving your complaint.
- The decision is not binding, but YouTube must engage in good faith.
Prepare a clear file: the original notice, your appeal, the rejection, and the video or a description of it. Our dispute body finder helps you choose.
Option 2: ask for the full statement of reasons
YouTube must give a clear and specific statement of reasons when it removes content, limits visibility, suspends or ends monetisation, or suspends or closes an account. That means the facts, the rule, whether automated tools were used, and how to challenge it. If you only got a policy name, ask YouTube in writing for the full statement. A vague reply supports your case.
Option 3: get your data
You can ask Google for a free copy of your personal data under the GDPR. Google must answer within one month, or within three months for complex requests if it tells you why. For a creator, this can mean your videos, comments and channel records. It does not depend on the appeal.
Option 4: the internal complaint window
Under the DSA, YouTube's internal complaint system must be open to you for free for at least six months from the day you were told about the decision. If you find new evidence, such as proof your channel was hijacked when the videos went up, you can use that window.
Option 5: copyright cases
If the termination came from copyright strikes, a rejected appeal is not the only lever. You can still ask the claimants for retractions, or file counter notifications where you are sure you had the rights. These are separate from the Community Guidelines appeal.
Option 6: court
The right to go to court remains. For channels with significant income, a lawyer can tell you whether it is worth it.
What not to do
- Do not start a new channel. YouTube's rules forbid it after termination, and it can damage your case.
- Do not pay anyone who promises to restore a channel or asks for your Google login.
Outside the EU, options after a rejection are limited. Keep any new evidence and use YouTube's help channels. If the termination is labelled permanent, read YouTube permanently banned. If you think it was an error, see YouTube banned by mistake.

What you stand to lose
A ban on YouTube takes more than a profile. Think about what is on the account before you decide what to do.
- Years of photos, videos and posts you may not have saved anywhere else
- Messages and contacts, sometimes the only way you reach certain people
- The followers, subscribers or community you built
- Income: sales, sponsorships, payouts and the customers who find you there
- Other apps and sites where you sign in with this account
On YouTube specifically
- YouTube's help pages say that after a termination you lose access to your Studio dashboard and other features. You can still sign in to YouTube Studio to see the details of the termination.
- Partner Program money. YouTube's help pages say a terminated channel no longer earns revenue, and YouTube may withhold unpaid earnings.
- Your other channels. YouTube's help pages say that after a termination you may not use, own or create any other YouTube channel.
Deadlines that are already running
- YouTube's help pages say you have up to 1 year from the termination date to appeal, with at most two appeals in that year.
- YouTube's help pages say that once a channel is terminated, you can no longer download your YouTube content. You can still download your Google data.
- Complaint to YouTube: open for at least six months from the day YouTube told you about the decision (DSA Art. 20).
- Copy of your data: free, and YouTube must answer within one month of your request (GDPR Art. 15). It is worth asking now.
Questions people ask
Can I appeal a YouTube termination twice?
YouTube's help pages say you can send up to two appeals within one year of a termination, while each strike can be appealed only once. If you live in the EU, a certified dispute settlement body offers a separate review outside YouTube.
Which dispute bodies take YouTube cases?
Appeals Centre Europe, User Rights and Platform Control are certified bodies that list YouTube. You can compare them before choosing one.
Is the dispute body's decision binding on YouTube?
No, it is not binding. But YouTube must engage with the process in good faith, and if you win, YouTube pays the fees and your reasonable costs.
My appeal was rejected within minutes. Is that allowed?
In the EU, complaints must not be decided by automated means alone. A very fast rejection is worth mentioning when you take the case further, along with the time stamps.
