WhatsApp Business account banned?

Updated 21 October 2026

Why acting early matters: Ask WhatsApp for a review soon and keep the notice. For a ban over private messages, the EU six-month complaint window may not apply. The longer an account is down, the more followers, customers and conversations move on. See what is at stake

If your WhatsApp Business app number was banned, first tap Request review in the app. WhatsApp's help pages say that without that option the ban is final. Then use the extra rules for business users: WhatsApp's Business App Terms promise 30 days' notice and reasons before ending the service for businesses in the EU within the Platform Regulation, with exceptions, plus a complaint form and mediation.

What a business loses

For many shops, salons and tradespeople, the WhatsApp number is the front desk. A ban can cost:

Step 1: the review

Tap Request review in the app soon. WhatsApp publishes no deadline. Explain in plain words what your business does, who your customers are, and that they contact you themselves. If you used a bulk sending tool or an unofficial app, stop now.

If you use the WhatsApp Business Platform (the API, often through a provider), this is a different route. WhatsApp's help pages say WhatsApp Support does not handle bans on the Platform. Go through Meta's business support for it.

Step 2: the Platform Regulation

The EU Platform Regulation (EU) 2019/1150, also called P2B, protects business users of online intermediation services. WhatsApp's own Business App Terms apply it to the Business app. They say:

So if WhatsApp ended your Business account with no notice and no reasons, ask in writing which exception applies. Use the complaint form and keep a copy.

Step 3: your other EU rights

These rules cover businesses in the EU. Outside the EU, the in-app review is the main route.

Keep a loss log

Start today. For each day, write down lost orders, cancelled bookings, refunds and the cost of switching customers to other channels. Add proof: invoices, booking exports, messages from customers. A log turns "the ban hurt us" into numbers a mediator or court can work with.

Meanwhile, tell customers how to reach you by phone, email or your website. Don't open a second WhatsApp Business account to get around the ban.

Scams aimed at businesses

Fake "Meta Business support" messages and paid "unban" services target businesses after a ban. Don't pay them. Never share the six digit code WhatsApp sends you by text.

If you think the ban was an error, read WhatsApp banned by mistake. If the review failed, see WhatsApp appeal denied. More on the WhatsApp hub.

What you stand to lose

A ban on WhatsApp takes more than a profile. Think about what is on the account before you decide what to do.

  • Years of photos, videos and posts you may not have saved anywhere else
  • Messages and contacts, sometimes the only way you reach certain people
  • The followers, subscribers or community you built
  • Income: sales, sponsorships, payouts and the customers who find you there
  • Other apps and sites where you sign in with this account

On WhatsApp specifically

  • WhatsApp's help pages say you can't access your chat history or backups while your account is banned. You can only get to a backup after the phone number tied to it is unbanned.
  • Your Meta Verified subscription. WhatsApp's help pages say a banned business account automatically loses it, and for some violations the subscription is cancelled without a refund.
  • Your business profile. WhatsApp's Business App Terms say that on termination WhatsApp removes your account profile and keeps the account data for up to 90 days.

Deadlines that are already running

  • Copy of your data: free, and WhatsApp must answer within one month of your request (GDPR Art. 15). It is worth asking now.

Questions people ask

Does WhatsApp have to warn my business before a ban?

WhatsApp's Business App Terms say that business users established in the EU and within the Platform Regulation get 30 days' notice and the reasons before WhatsApp ends the service. There are exceptions, such as a legal obligation or repeated breaches. If you got no notice, ask which exception WhatsApp relies on.

What happens to Meta Verified if my WhatsApp Business account is banned?

WhatsApp's help pages say a banned business account automatically loses its Meta Verified subscription. For some violations the subscription is cancelled and no refund is given. Keep your payment records.

My business uses the WhatsApp Business Platform (API). Who do I contact?

WhatsApp's help pages say WhatsApp Support does not handle bans and restrictions on the WhatsApp Business Platform. Those go through Meta's business support for the platform. The rest of this page is about the WhatsApp Business app.

Can my business claim compensation for a WhatsApp ban?

Possibly, in court, depending on the facts and your contract. A loss log with dates and amounts makes any claim clearer. Get legal advice before you start.
