TikTok account permanently banned?

Updated 21 October 2026

Why acting early matters: Your EU complaint window is at least six months from the day TikTok told you about the decision. The longer an account is down, the more followers, customers and conversations move on. See what is at stake

A permanent TikTok ban is TikTok's heaviest penalty, but "permanent" is TikTok's label for it, not the end of your options. You can still appeal it, and if you live in the EU you can complain for free for at least six months, take it to an independent dispute body, and get a copy of your data. Screenshot the notice now and do not open a new account.

What "permanent" means here

When TikTok says permanent, it means the account will stay blocked unless TikTok itself reverses the decision. It does not mean the decision is beyond review. Under EU law, a decision to close an account is one you are entitled to challenge, and if a complaint shows it was wrong, TikTok must reverse it without undue delay.

So the useful question is not "is it permanent?" but "was it right?". That is what you need to show.

How TikTok gets to a permanent ban

There are two common paths:

Which path applies changes your argument. If it was strikes, look at each one: was any of them wrong? Removing a single wrong strike can bring you below the line. If it was one severe violation, focus on that one piece of content and its context.

Build your case

  1. Collect the notices. Every strike, every removed video, the final ban notice.
  2. List the content. For each item, write what it showed and why it did not break the rule. Be honest. If one strike was fair, say so and focus on the others.
  3. Add context. Satire, education, news, art or a reply to someone else can all change how a rule applies.
  4. Check for errors. Was the account hacked at the time? Was the content even yours? See TikTok banned by mistake if so.
  5. Appeal in the app, if the option is still there, with a short and specific message.

Your rights in the EU

If you live in the EU, the Digital Services Act gives you these routes.

TikTok must give you a statement of reasons with the facts, the rule, whether automated tools were used, and how to challenge it. You can file a free complaint through TikTok's internal system for at least six months from the day you were told about the decision, and it must not be decided by automated means alone.

You can also go to a certified out-of-court dispute settlement body, even without an in-app appeal. Appeals Centre Europe and User Rights both list TikTok. They decide within 90 days of receiving your complaint. The decision is not binding, but TikTok must engage in good faith. If you win, TikTok pays the fees and your reasonable costs. Your right to go to court remains.

You can also ask for a free copy of your personal data under the GDPR. TikTok must answer within one month, or up to three months for complex requests if it tells you why. Your videos and messages are worth saving whatever happens with the ban.

Outside the EU, the in-app appeal is the main route. If that appeal already failed, read TikTok appeal denied.

Two things to avoid

What you stand to lose

A ban on TikTok takes more than a profile. Think about what is on the account before you decide what to do.

  • Years of photos, videos and posts you may not have saved anywhere else
  • Messages and contacts, sometimes the only way you reach certain people
  • The followers, subscribers or community you built
  • Income: sales, sponsorships, payouts and the customers who find you there
  • Other apps and sites where you sign in with this account

On TikTok specifically

  • TikTok's help pages say it deletes the personal data of a banned account after a period of time, in line with the law and its data retention policy. After that, the account is no longer available.
  • Unused Coins and other virtual items. TikTok's EEA virtual items policy says there is no refund if your account is terminated before you use them, unless the law requires one.
  • Creator rewards. TikTok's EEA rewards policy says it may end your access to Rewards, including rewards you have already received, after a serious or repeated breach.

Deadlines that are already running

  • TikTok's help pages say you can still log in to a banned account to submit an appeal and download your personal data.
  • Complaint to TikTok: open for at least six months from the day TikTok told you about the decision (DSA Art. 20).
  • Copy of your data: free, and TikTok must answer within one month of your request (GDPR Art. 15). It is worth asking now.

Questions people ask

Can a permanent TikTok ban be reversed?

Yes, it can be reversed on appeal if TikTok accepts that the decision was wrong. Permanent describes the penalty, not the end of your right to challenge it. Nobody can promise a reversal.

Why did TikTok permanently ban me without warning?

TikTok can ban an account after one severe violation, or after strikes add up. In the EU, it must still tell you the facts and the rule it relied on, so ask for the statement of reasons if you did not get one.

Can I make a new TikTok account after a permanent ban?

TikTok's rules treat creating a new account to get around a ban as ban evasion. The new account can be removed and it can hurt any challenge you are making.

Will I lose my TikTok videos forever?

Not necessarily. You can ask TikTok for a copy of your personal data, including your videos, under the GDPR if you live in the EU.
