How long does a TikTok ban last?
Updated 21 October 2026
A temporary TikTok ban lasts as long as the notice says, and a permanent one has no end date. An appeal has no fixed time that TikTok guarantees. The deadlines you can count on come from EU law, if you live in the EU: at least six months to file a free complaint, 90 days for a dispute body to decide after it receives your complaint, and one month for TikTok to answer a data request.
How long the ban itself lasts
Look at the notice, not at forum posts. The length differs by case.
- Temporary suspension or feature limit: read the notice for any end date. The Account check page in the app shows which features are still restricted.
- Strikes: TikTok's help pages say strikes expire after 90 days. A strike that is still active can make the next penalty heavier.
- Permanent ban: no end date. It stays until TikTok reverses it after an appeal or complaint.
If the notice gives no end date and does not say permanent, treat it as open ended and appeal now.
How long a TikTok appeal takes
TikTok does not promise a set time for appeals, and anyone who gives you an exact number is guessing. Some people hear back fast, others wait much longer. A very fast answer can mean an automated decision. In the EU, a complaint must not be decided by automated means alone, so note the time it took.
While you wait, do not file the same appeal again and again. One clear appeal is easier to review. Use the time to save your data and collect evidence.
The deadlines that actually exist
These come from EU law and apply if you live in the EU.
- At least six months to complain. Under the Digital Services Act, you can use TikTok's internal complaint system, free, for at least six months from the day you were told about the decision. Note the date of the notice, because the clock starts there.
- 90 days for a dispute body. If you go to a certified out-of-court dispute settlement body, such as Appeals Centre Europe or User Rights, it decides within 90 days of receiving your complaint, or up to 90 days longer in very complex cases. Send a full file so they can work on your case right away.
- One month for your data. A GDPR access request must be answered within one month. TikTok can extend that by up to two more months for complex requests, but it must tell you why.
- Without undue delay. If your complaint shows the decision was wrong, TikTok must reverse it without undue delay. There is no exact number, but long silence after a clear win is something you can raise.
Our deadline calculator works out these dates from the date on your notice.
What to do with the waiting time
- Write a timeline. Date of notice, date of appeal, any replies.
- Request your data. It does not affect your appeal and protects your videos.
- Do not open a new account. It can be treated as ban evasion.
- Ignore anyone selling faster reviews. There is no paid fast lane, and people who ask for your login are scammers.
If TikTok has already said no, the next steps are on TikTok appeal denied. If the block is temporary, see TikTok account suspended.
Outside the EU, these legal deadlines do not apply, and the in-app appeal is your main route.

What you stand to lose
A ban on TikTok takes more than a profile. Think about what is on the account before you decide what to do.
- Years of photos, videos and posts you may not have saved anywhere else
- Messages and contacts, sometimes the only way you reach certain people
- The followers, subscribers or community you built
- Income: sales, sponsorships, payouts and the customers who find you there
- Other apps and sites where you sign in with this account
On TikTok specifically
- TikTok's help pages say it deletes the personal data of a banned account after a period of time, in line with the law and its data retention policy. After that, the account is no longer available.
- Unused Coins and other virtual items. TikTok's EEA virtual items policy says there is no refund if your account is terminated before you use them, unless the law requires one.
- Creator rewards. TikTok's EEA rewards policy says it may end your access to Rewards, including rewards you have already received, after a serious or repeated breach.
Deadlines that are already running
- TikTok's help pages say you can still log in to a banned account to submit an appeal and download your personal data.
- Complaint to TikTok: open for at least six months from the day TikTok told you about the decision (DSA Art. 20).
- Copy of your data: free, and TikTok must answer within one month of your request (GDPR Art. 15). It is worth asking now.
