TikTok appeal denied?
Updated 21 October 2026
A rejected TikTok appeal ends the process inside the app, but if you live in the EU it does not end your options. You can take the decision to an independent out-of-court dispute body that lists TikTok, ask TikTok for a proper statement of reasons, request a copy of your data, and keep court as a last resort. Save the rejection message now, with the date.
Look closely at the rejection
Before you do anything else, read the rejection message and compare it with the original notice. Ask yourself:
- Does it name the specific video, comment or behaviour?
- Does it name the rule?
- Does it say whether automated tools were used?
- Did the answer arrive so fast that a person probably did not read your appeal?
Write the answers down. Gaps here are useful, because EU law sets standards for both the explanation and the review.
Option 1: an out-of-court dispute body
If you live in the EU, the Digital Services Act lets you take TikTok's decision to a certified out-of-court dispute settlement body. Appeals Centre Europe and User Rights both list TikTok.
What to expect:
- It is free for you or costs a nominal fee.
- If you win, TikTok pays the fees and your reasonable costs.
- The body decides within 90 days of receiving your complaint.
- The decision is not binding, but TikTok must engage with it in good faith.
You did not need to appeal in the app first, but having done so helps: you now have TikTok's own response on record. Our dispute body finder helps you pick one.
Option 2: ask for the statement of reasons
Under the DSA, TikTok must give a clear and specific statement of reasons when it removes content, limits visibility, stops monetisation, or suspends or closes an account. If what you got was a one-line message, write to TikTok and ask for the full statement: the facts, the rule, whether automation was used, and how to challenge it. A vague answer strengthens your case with a dispute body.
Option 3: a GDPR data request
You can ask TikTok for a free copy of your personal data. TikTok must reply within one month, or within three months for complex requests if it tells you why. This gets your videos and messages back even if the account does not come back. It may also show records linked to the decision.
Option 4: a further internal complaint
You can use TikTok's internal complaint system for at least six months from the day you were told about the decision. If you have new evidence, such as proof the account was hacked or proof of your age, you can submit it within that window.
Option 5: court
The right to go to court stays, whatever happens with the appeal or a dispute body. Court costs time and money, so most people try a dispute body first. For a business with real losses, talk to a lawyer.
What not to do now
- Do not open a new account. It can count as ban evasion and undermine your case.
- Do not pay "recovery" services. Nobody outside TikTok can lift a ban, and people who ask for your login are scammers.
Outside the EU, options after a denied appeal are limited. You can keep asking TikTok support and send any new evidence. If the ban is labelled permanent, read TikTok permanently banned. For timing, see how long TikTok takes.

What you stand to lose
A ban on TikTok takes more than a profile. Think about what is on the account before you decide what to do.
- Years of photos, videos and posts you may not have saved anywhere else
- Messages and contacts, sometimes the only way you reach certain people
- The followers, subscribers or community you built
- Income: sales, sponsorships, payouts and the customers who find you there
- Other apps and sites where you sign in with this account
On TikTok specifically
- TikTok's help pages say it deletes the personal data of a banned account after a period of time, in line with the law and its data retention policy. After that, the account is no longer available.
- Unused Coins and other virtual items. TikTok's EEA virtual items policy says there is no refund if your account is terminated before you use them, unless the law requires one.
- Creator rewards. TikTok's EEA rewards policy says it may end your access to Rewards, including rewards you have already received, after a serious or repeated breach.
Deadlines that are already running
- TikTok's help pages say you can still log in to a banned account to submit an appeal and download your personal data.
- Complaint to TikTok: open for at least six months from the day TikTok told you about the decision (DSA Art. 20).
- Copy of your data: free, and TikTok must answer within one month of your request (GDPR Art. 15). It is worth asking now.
Questions people ask
Can I appeal again after TikTok denies my appeal?
Check the rejection message for any further option TikTok offers, and send new evidence if you have it. If you live in the EU, you can also go to a certified dispute settlement body, which is a separate review outside TikTok.
Is a denied TikTok appeal final?
Inside the app, it is TikTok's answer to your appeal. Legally, in the EU, it is not the end: you can take the decision to an out-of-court dispute body or to court.
Which dispute bodies handle TikTok cases?
Appeals Centre Europe and User Rights are certified bodies that both list TikTok. You can compare them before you choose one.
How fast did TikTok reject my appeal, and does that matter?
A very fast rejection can suggest little human review. In the EU, complaints must not be decided by automated means alone, so you can mention the timing in your next step.
