Snapchat appeal denied?
Updated 21 October 2026
If Snapchat Support rejected your appeal, you still have options if you live in the EU. You can take the decision to a certified out-of-court dispute settlement body such as User Rights or Platform Control, ask Snapchat for a full statement of reasons, request your data including Memories, and keep the right to go to court. Outside the EU, Snapchat's own process is the main route, and new evidence is the only thing likely to change it.
Read what Snapchat actually said
Look at the rejection message. Does it:
- name a specific rule from the Community Guidelines or Terms?
- describe what you did, with facts you recognise?
- say whether automated tools were used?
- tell you how you can challenge it?
If you live in the EU, the Digital Services Act says the statement of reasons must cover all of this, and it must be clear and specific. A generic "your account will remain locked" may fall short. Reply and ask for the full statement of reasons. It costs nothing.
Take it to a certified dispute body
If you live in the EU, you can bring Snapchat's decision to a certified out-of-court dispute settlement body. For Snapchat, both User Rights and Platform Control list the platform.
- It is free for you, or costs a nominal fee.
- The body must decide within 90 days of receiving your complaint.
- The decision is not binding, but Snapchat must engage in good faith.
- If you win, Snapchat pays the fees and your reasonable costs.
Use the dispute body finder to compare them.
Gather a better file
Appeals to Snapchat Support are often short. For a dispute body, put together:
- Screenshots of the lock message and all emails from Snapchat, with dates.
- Your appeal and the rejection.
- A short timeline of what happened before the lock.
- Anything that supports your side: proof you removed an unofficial app, security emails about logins that were not yours, or proof of your age if that was the issue.
- A plain explanation of why the decision was wrong.
Get your Memories and chats
For many people, the real loss is years of Memories. If you live in the EU, request a copy of your personal data under GDPR Article 15. It is free. Snapchat must reply within one month, or up to three months for complex requests if it explains the delay. Do this now, alongside the dispute, not after.
Court is still possible
Your right to go to court is not affected by any of these steps. Most people start with a dispute body because it is simpler and cheaper.
What not to do
Do not create a new account. Snapchat treats that as getting around the lock. Do not pay anyone who says they can get the lock lifted through "inside contacts". That does not exist.
Outside the EU, your main option is Snapchat Support. If you have new evidence, send it once, clearly.
If the notice calls the lock permanent, read permanently banned from Snapchat. If you were hacked, see banned by mistake.
The free ban checker shows your deadlines and which body fits your case.
What you stand to lose
A ban on Snapchat takes more than a profile. Think about what is on the account before you decide what to do.
- Years of photos, videos and posts you may not have saved anywhere else
- Messages and contacts, sometimes the only way you reach certain people
- The followers, subscribers or community you built
- Income: sales, sponsorships, payouts and the customers who find you there
- Other apps and sites where you sign in with this account
On Snapchat specifically
- Snapchat's help pages say you can't reopen an account locked for breaking its rules yourself. Snapchat may also have removed content or banned your device.
- Your one appeal. Snapchat's help pages say you can appeal a lock only once. If the appeal is denied, you can't send another.
- Your Memories. Snapchat points locked users to its data download for Memories and other data.
Deadlines that are already running
- Snapchat's help pages say you can request your Memories and other data at accounts.snapchat.com under My Data. Data may not be available for some types of locked accounts.
- Complaint to Snapchat: open for at least six months from the day Snapchat told you about the decision (DSA Art. 20).
- Copy of your data: free, and Snapchat must answer within one month of your request (GDPR Art. 15). It is worth asking now.
Questions people ask
Can I appeal a Snapchat lock more than once?
No. Snapchat's help pages say you can only appeal a lock once, and after a denial you cannot submit another one. If you live in the EU, a better next step is a certified out-of-court dispute settlement body. User Rights and Platform Control both list Snapchat.
What does it cost to take Snapchat to a dispute body?
For users it is free or a nominal fee. If the body decides in your favour, Snapchat pays the fees and your reasonable costs.
Can I at least get my Snapchat Memories after a denied appeal?
If you live in the EU, yes, you can request a copy of your personal data under the GDPR, free of charge. Snapchat must answer within one month, or up to three months for complex requests if it tells you why.
Do I have to accept Snapchat's decision?
No. The decision is Snapchat's position, not a legal ruling. If you live in the EU, a dispute body and the courts can still review it.
