Permanently banned from Twitch?

Updated 21 October 2026

Why acting early matters: Twitch's help pages say you can appeal enforcements issued within the last six months, or your most recent one if you are serving an indefinite suspension. Appeals go only through appeals.twitch.tv. The longer an account is down, the more followers, customers and conversations move on. See what is at stake

An indefinite Twitch suspension has no end date, but "permanent" is not a legal end point. You can still appeal through Twitch. If you live in the EU, you have a free internal complaint for at least six months from the day you were told about the decision, the right to a clear statement of reasons, the option of a certified dispute body, your data rights, and the courts. Don't open a new channel while you use them.

What indefinite means

Twitch usually calls its longest action an indefinite suspension. It will not expire on a timer. It is still a decision by Twitch about your account, and if you live in the EU the Digital Services Act treats it like any other account decision:

If only one streamer's channel has banned you for good, that is their channel ban. Your account still works elsewhere. See the Twitch overview.

A sensible order of steps

  1. Save everything now. The enforcement email, your channel page as visitors see it, your VODs list, payout screens, and messages from your moderators.
  2. Appeal in the Appeals Portal at appeals.twitch.tv. One clear appeal with the content, the rule, and why it does not fit. Add context a reviewer would not see from a short clip.
  3. Request your data under GDPR Art. 15. Free, answered within one month, or up to two more months for complex requests with a reason given. It also gives you a copy of your history.
  4. Go to a dispute body under DSA Art. 21, with or without the internal appeal. No certified body lists Twitch by name yet, but general bodies may take it. Free or nominal fee for you, decision within 90 days of receiving your complaint, and Twitch pays your reasonable costs if you win. Use the dispute body finder.
  5. Court stays open throughout.

Outside the EU, Twitch's appeal is the main route.

For streamers: protect what you built

An indefinite suspension can cut you off from your audience overnight.

What makes it harder

If you think the suspension came after someone took over your account, read banned by mistake on Twitch.

What you stand to lose

A ban on Twitch takes more than a profile. Think about what is on the account before you decide what to do.

  • Years of photos, videos and posts you may not have saved anywhere else
  • Messages and contacts, sometimes the only way you reach certain people
  • The followers, subscribers or community you built
  • Income: sales, sponsorships, payouts and the customers who find you there
  • Other apps and sites where you sign in with this account

On Twitch specifically

  • Bits and subscriptions you bought. Twitch's help pages say that during an indefinite suspension you can't use items you bought, such as Bits and subscriptions, and recurring subscriptions don't renew.
  • Your subscribers and monetization. Twitch's help pages say a monetized streamer can't use monetization tools during an indefinite suspension, and existing subscriptions to the channel don't renew.

Deadlines that are already running

  • Twitch's help pages say you can appeal enforcements issued within the last six months, or your most recent one if you are serving an indefinite suspension. Appeals go only through appeals.twitch.tv.
  • Complaint to Twitch: open for at least six months from the day Twitch told you about the decision (DSA Art. 20).
  • Copy of your data: free, and Twitch must answer within one month of your request (GDPR Art. 15). It is worth asking now.

Questions people ask

Is an indefinite Twitch suspension the same as permanent?

In practice it means there is no end date and it will not lift on its own. It can still be reversed after a successful appeal, and after six months you can ask Twitch once for reinstatement, except for the most serious harms.

Can I start a new Twitch channel after an indefinite suspension?

Twitch treats new accounts made to get around a suspension as ban evasion. The new channel can be suspended too, and it can hurt your case about the original decision.

Will I get my last Twitch payout after an indefinite suspension?

That depends on your Affiliate or Partner agreement and the reason for the action. Check your payout dashboard if you can still reach it, and record any amount owed with dates.

Can I still go to a dispute body for Twitch?

Yes, if you live in the EU. No certified body lists Twitch by name yet, but general certified bodies may accept the case.
