Twitch says your account is suspended
Your account is currently suspended
Messages like "Your account is currently suspended" on Twitch mean Twitch has suspended your account. Since 2026, lighter breaches only block streaming or chatting, while an indefinite suspension blocks the whole account. Check the Appeals Portal for the reason, appeal there, and if you live in the EU, use your free complaint rights.
What this message means
Twitch decided you broke its Community Guidelines or Terms of Service, often because of something in a stream, a chat message or a clip. A streaming or chatting suspension only blocks the related features, and you can still watch and follow. An indefinite suspension blocks everything, including watching, chatting, going live, Bits and subscriptions, and streamers lose their monetization tools. Twitch emails you, and the Appeals Portal names the reason and the length.
What it does not mean
- It does not always mean a permanent ban. Many suspensions have an end date.
- It does not mean you cannot appeal, even for an indefinite suspension.
- It does not mean the reason is correct. Clips taken out of context and mass reports happen.
What to do now
- Screenshot the message and find the email from Twitch. Note the reason, the date and the length shown in the Appeals Portal.
- Open the Appeals Portal by logging in with the suspended account.
- Write a short appeal: what happened in the stream or chat, the context, why it does not break the rule. Add a timestamp if you have one.
- Save your evidence: VODs, clips and chat logs you can still reach, and any messages from moderators.
- Do not stream or chat from another account. Twitch treats that as getting around the suspension.
- Tell sponsors and your community calmly, if needed. Do not post accusations.

The EU route
If you live in the EU, the Digital Services Act (DSA) applies to Twitch's suspensions:
- Twitch must give a clear statement of reasons: the facts, the rule, whether automated tools were used, and how to challenge it.
- You can file a free internal complaint for at least six months, not decided by automated means alone. A wrong decision must be reversed without undue delay.
- Dispute bodies: no certified body lists Twitch by name yet, but general certified bodies may still take your case.
- The GDPR gives you a free copy of your data within one month.
- Court stays open.
If you stream as a business, the P2B Regulation may also apply. Outside the EU, the Appeals Portal is your main route. More on the Twitch page.
Watch out for scams
Suspended streamers get DMs from people claiming staff contacts. They cannot lift suspensions. Never share your password or codes, and never pay them.
Questions people ask
How do I appeal a Twitch suspension?
Twitch's help pages point to its Appeals Portal, which you reach by logging in with the suspended account. Pick the suspension and explain briefly why it is wrong.
Is my Twitch suspension temporary or indefinite?
Since 2026, Twitch uses streaming and chatting suspensions of 24 hours to 30 days, and indefinite suspensions for the most serious cases. The Appeals Portal shows which one you have and how long it lasts.
Can I watch or stream with another account while suspended?
No. Twitch's rules do not allow using other accounts to get around a suspension, and doing so can make the penalty worse.
Is there a dispute body for Twitch in the EU?
No certified body lists Twitch by name yet. General certified dispute bodies may still take the case, so it is worth asking. The internal complaint and court are always open.
