Threads account suspended?

Updated 21 October 2026

Why acting early matters: Your EU complaint window is at least six months from the day Threads told you about the decision. The longer an account is down, the more followers, customers and conversations move on. See what is at stake

If Threads suspended your profile, open the app, read the notice and use the option to disagree before any time limit it shows runs out. Screenshot the notice first. Check whether Instagram still works: if it does, the suspension is about Threads only. If you live in the EU, you also have a free complaint right and access to an independent dispute body.

What a Threads suspension looks like

When you open Threads you see a notice instead of your feed. It should say that your profile is suspended, why, and how to disagree. Expect your profile to be hidden while it lasts.

Threads suspensions often follow:

Responding to the suspension

  1. Screenshot the notice and any email from Instagram or Threads.
  2. Find the content. If the notice names a post or reply, save the thread it was part of. Context matters on Threads.
  3. Use the option to disagree. You may need to confirm it's you through your Instagram login.
  4. Explain briefly. For example: "This reply was a quote of the original post, which I was criticising." Two or three sentences are enough.
  5. Record the date.

Then wait for the result in the app rather than sending the same request again.

Check your Instagram account too

Your rights if you live in the EU

Under the Digital Services Act, Meta must give you a clear statement of reasons for the suspension: the facts, the rule, whether automated tools were used and how to challenge it. If your notice is vague, say so in your complaint.

You can use the internal complaint system free of charge for at least six months from the day you were told about the decision. It must not be handled by automated means alone, and a wrong decision must be reversed without undue delay. You can also go to a certified out-of-court dispute body, even without the internal complaint. It decides within 90 days of receiving your complaint, and Meta pays the fees and your reasonable costs if you win. Appeals Centre Europe lists Threads and reviews removed posts and suspended or disabled accounts, though it leaves out some cases, such as hacked accounts and spam. User Rights and Platform Control list Instagram, not Threads, so ask them first. If the Threads block comes from an Instagram decision, you can take that Instagram decision to any of them. Court stays open.

Outside the EU, the in-app appeal is the main route.

While you wait

If the suspension stays after review, read Threads appeal denied. For time limits, see how long a Threads ban lasts. The Threads hub covers every problem.

What you stand to lose

A ban on Threads takes more than a profile. Think about what is on the account before you decide what to do.

  • Years of photos, videos and posts you may not have saved anywhere else
  • Messages and contacts, sometimes the only way you reach certain people
  • The followers, subscribers or community you built
  • Income: sales, sponsorships, payouts and the customers who find you there
  • Other apps and sites where you sign in with this account

Deadlines that are already running

  • Complaint to Threads: open for at least six months from the day Threads told you about the decision (DSA Art. 20).
  • Copy of your data: free, and Threads must answer within one month of your request (GDPR Art. 15). It is worth asking now.

Questions people ask

Does a Threads suspension count against my Instagram account?

Meta doesn't publish exactly how violations on Threads affect Instagram. Both apps follow the Meta Community Standards, and they can be linked. Treat a Threads suspension seriously and challenge it if you think it's wrong.

Can people still see my Threads posts while I'm suspended?

Meta doesn't spell this out for Threads. On Facebook, it says a suspended account isn't visible to anyone, so expect your profile to be hidden while the suspension lasts.

Is there a deadline to disagree with a Threads suspension?

Check your notice for any time limit. If you live in the EU, you have at least six months to use the internal complaint system. Act early so the in-app option doesn't expire.
