Tinder account restricted?

Updated 21 October 2026

Why acting early matters: Tinder's help pages say a violation can no longer be appealed in the Appeals Center once the action is more than 6 months old, or once you have already appealed it. The longer an account is down, the more followers, customers and conversations move on. See what is at stake

If you can still open Tinder but can't send likes or messages, or your profile seems hidden, one likely reason in the EU is an unfinished age check. Tinder's help pages say users in the EEA must complete a video selfie age check, and until they do, they can't send likes or messages and their profile is hidden. Look for a prompt in the app. If Tinder warned you or removed a photo instead, you can appeal that in the Appeals Center within 6 months.

Which restriction is it?

Age check pending. You see a request to verify with a video selfie. This is not a punishment. Complete it, and the limits should lift.

Age restricted. Tinder is for adults only. Its help pages say an age restriction stops you from finishing account creation. If you entered a wrong birthdate and are 18 or older, you can lift it by verifying your age with ID.

Warning. You got an in-app message from Team Tinder and an email. A warning is a recorded violation, even if you can still swipe. Tinder's help pages say several warnings for the same violation type can lead to a suspension or a ban.

Content removed. A photo, prompt or bio line was taken down. The rest of the profile may still work.

Fewer matches, no notice. Tinder publishes no shadowban feature. Fewer matches can come from your settings, your area or simple chance. Without a notice, there is no decision to appeal, but you can ask.

Fix what you can yourself

  1. Finish any check the app asks for. Use good light, your own face, and no filters.
  2. Check your photos. Another person's photo, a heavy filter or a group shot where you can't be told apart can cause trouble with checks.
  3. Read the warning word for word. It names the rule. Take a screenshot.

Never send your ID or a selfie to anyone who contacts you outside the app and claims to be Tinder. Do verification only inside the app or on Tinder's own pages.

Appeal a warning or removal

A warning is easy to ignore, but it counts. If you think it is wrong, appeal it before the next one turns into a suspension.

  1. Open tinder.com/appeals-center and log in with your Tinder details.
  2. Pick the warning or removed content.
  3. Choose "Begin appeal", explain briefly why it did not break the rule, and submit.

The status changes from "In Review" to "Approved" or "Denied". Tinder's help pages say each action can be appealed once, within 6 months.

Your rights in the EU

If you live in the EU, the DSA also covers smaller steps than a ban. When a platform removes content or limits its visibility, it must give a statement of reasons (DSA Art. 17). That includes the facts, the rule, whether automated tools were used, and how to challenge it. Your complaint through the Appeals Center is free and must not be decided by automated means alone (DSA Art. 20).

If Tinder keeps the decision, you can take it to a certified dispute body (DSA Art. 21). Platform Control names Tinder on the European Commission's list. Use the dispute body finder. You can also ask for your data under GDPR Art. 15, which may show what Tinder recorded about you.

Outside the EU, the Appeals Center is your main route.

Next steps

If the restriction turned into a full suspension, read Tinder account suspended. If you think a check or a report got you wrong, see banned on Tinder by mistake. The Tinder overview and the free ban checker show the rest.

What you stand to lose

A ban on Tinder takes more than a profile. Think about what is on the account before you decide what to do.

  • Years of photos, videos and posts you may not have saved anywhere else
  • Messages and contacts, sometimes the only way you reach certain people
  • The followers, subscribers or community you built
  • Income: sales, sponsorships, payouts and the customers who find you there
  • Other apps and sites where you sign in with this account

On Tinder specifically

  • Tinder's privacy policy says it keeps your data for one year after a ban to investigate unlawful or harmful conduct. After that it deletes it, except data it must or may keep for longer, such as transaction data.
  • Your subscription. Tinder's terms say you get no refund for purchases if the account is terminated for any reason. In the EU you can get a full refund in the first 14 days of a subscription.
  • Billing that keeps running. Tinder's help pages say that if you subscribed on an iPhone or Android device, you have to cancel the subscription yourself after a ban.
  • Unused Super Likes, Boosts and other virtual items. Tinder's terms say you get no money or other compensation for them when an account is closed, voluntarily or not.
  • Other dating apps. Tinder's terms say a ban can also cover other Match Group apps, such as Hinge, OkCupid, Plenty of Fish and Meetic.

Deadlines that are already running

  • Tinder's help pages say a violation can no longer be appealed in the Appeals Center once the action is more than 6 months old, or once you have already appealed it.
  • Tinder's help pages say banned and suspended users can still request their personal data with the Download My Data tool.
  • Complaint to Tinder: open for at least six months from the day Tinder told you about the decision (DSA Art. 20).
  • Copy of your data: free, and Tinder must answer within one month of your request (GDPR Art. 15). It is worth asking now.

Questions people ask

Why can't I send likes or messages on Tinder?

In the EEA, Tinder asks for a video selfie age check. Tinder's help pages say that until you complete it, you can't send likes or messages and your profile is not visible to others. Check the app for a prompt to verify.

What does age restricted mean on Tinder?

Tinder is for adults only. Its help pages say an age restriction stops you from finishing account creation. If you entered a wrong birthdate and are 18 or older, you can lift it by verifying your age with ID. Use the prompt in the app.

Is Tinder shadowbanning me?

Tinder does not publish a shadowban feature, so nobody outside Tinder can confirm one. Fewer matches can have many causes. If you think Tinder limited you, ask it in writing which decision applies to your account.

Can I appeal a Tinder warning or removed photo?

Yes. Tinder's help pages say the Appeals Center covers warnings and content removals, not only bans and suspensions. The same 6 month window applies.
