Permanently banned from Tinder?
Updated 21 October 2026
Tinder's help pages describe a ban without an end date: you are kept out of the account and from new ones, and the profile is removed. It still isn't final in every case. You can appeal once in the Appeals Center within 6 months. If you live in the EU, you can also take the ban to a certified dispute body, ask for your data and go to court. A ban can also reach other Match Group dating apps, so check those too.
What a Tinder ban takes with it
- The profile. Tinder's help pages say it is removed from the platform.
- Matches and chats. Tinder's pages don't say what happens to them. Treat them as gone until the ban is lifted.
- Your subscription. Tinder's terms say there is no refund for purchases when Tinder terminates the account.
- Super Likes and Boosts. No money or other compensation for unused items, the terms say.
- Other apps. The terms say a ban can also cover other Match Group apps, such as Hinge, OkCupid, Plenty of Fish and Meetic.
- New accounts. The ban covers those too. Tinder's privacy policy says it keeps the data it needs to stop banned users from signing up again.
What "permanent" means legally
A platform can call a ban final. That word does not take away your rights. If you live in the EU:
- The decision must be explained (DSA Art. 17). Tinder must give the facts, the rule, whether automated tools were used, and how to challenge it. Tinder's terms say it may hold back details to protect other users' safety or privacy, but it still has to give you reasons.
- The complaint must be real (DSA Art. 20). Free, open for at least six months, and not decided by automated means alone. If it shows the decision was wrong, Tinder must reverse it without undue delay.
- An outside body can review it (DSA Art. 21). Platform Control names Tinder on the European Commission's list. ADR Center and ADR Point name it on their own sites.
- Court stays open.
Outside the EU, the Appeals Center is your main route.
Your options, in order
- Appeal in the Appeals Center if you haven't yet. You get one try per action, within 6 months.
- Request your data. Tinder's help pages say banned users can still use Download My Data at account.gotinder.com/data. Tinder keeps a banned user's data for one year, then deletes most of it, so do this soon.
- Go to a dispute body. You can do this even before the appeal is decided. Find one with the dispute body finder.
- Get legal advice if a lot is at stake. Tinder's terms say users in the EU may bring claims in their country of residence.
If your appeal was already rejected, read Tinder appeal denied.
Stop the money
Cancel any App Store or Google Play subscription yourself. Tinder's help pages say a ban does not do that for you. Keep receipts for every payment in the last months. If a dispute body or court finds the ban was wrong, those receipts show what you lost.
Other dating apps
If you also use Hinge, OkCupid or another Match Group app, check if you can still log in. If one of them closed your account because of the Tinder ban, save that notice too. It is a separate decision, and in the EU it also needs a statement of reasons.
Don't make it worse
Don't create a new Tinder account with another number or email. Don't pay anyone who claims they can "unban" you or "reset your device". Keep your appeal honest and factual. If you think a report from a match caused the ban, see banned on Tinder by mistake. The Tinder overview and the free ban checker have the rest.
What you stand to lose
A ban on Tinder takes more than a profile. Think about what is on the account before you decide what to do.
- Years of photos, videos and posts you may not have saved anywhere else
- Messages and contacts, sometimes the only way you reach certain people
- The followers, subscribers or community you built
- Income: sales, sponsorships, payouts and the customers who find you there
- Other apps and sites where you sign in with this account
On Tinder specifically
- Tinder's privacy policy says it keeps your data for one year after a ban to investigate unlawful or harmful conduct. After that it deletes it, except data it must or may keep for longer, such as transaction data.
- Your subscription. Tinder's terms say you get no refund for purchases if the account is terminated for any reason. In the EU you can get a full refund in the first 14 days of a subscription.
- Billing that keeps running. Tinder's help pages say that if you subscribed on an iPhone or Android device, you have to cancel the subscription yourself after a ban.
- Unused Super Likes, Boosts and other virtual items. Tinder's terms say you get no money or other compensation for them when an account is closed, voluntarily or not.
- Other dating apps. Tinder's terms say a ban can also cover other Match Group apps, such as Hinge, OkCupid, Plenty of Fish and Meetic.
Deadlines that are already running
- Tinder's help pages say a violation can no longer be appealed in the Appeals Center once the action is more than 6 months old, or once you have already appealed it.
- Tinder's help pages say banned and suspended users can still request their personal data with the Download My Data tool.
- Complaint to Tinder: open for at least six months from the day Tinder told you about the decision (DSA Art. 20).
- Copy of your data: free, and Tinder must answer within one month of your request (GDPR Art. 15). It is worth asking now.
Questions people ask
Can a permanent Tinder ban be lifted?
Yes, if Tinder changes its decision, for example after an appeal or after a dispute body looks at the case. Nobody can promise that. If you live in the EU, the law makes Tinder reverse a decision that turns out to be wrong without undue delay.
Am I banned from Hinge too if Tinder banned me?
You may be. Tinder's terms say a ban can also cover other Match Group apps, such as Hinge, OkCupid, Plenty of Fish and Meetic. Tinder's privacy policy says data can be shared between these services for that purpose.
Do I get my Tinder Platinum money back after a ban?
Tinder's terms say you get no refund for purchases if the account is terminated. In the EU you can get a full refund during the first 14 days after a subscription begins. If you think the ban was wrong, list the payments in your complaint.
Why won't Tinder tell me why I was banned?
Tinder's terms say it may hold back information if sharing it could put other users' safety or privacy at risk. If you live in the EU, Tinder must still give you a clear and specific statement of reasons under DSA Art. 17.
