X says: Your account is suspended
Your account is suspended. After careful review, we determined your account broke the X Rules.
"Your account is suspended. After careful review, we determined your account broke the X Rules" means X has blocked your account from posting and interacting, and your profile shows it as suspended. You can still appeal. Screenshot the banner, file an appeal through X's form, and if you live in the EU, use your free complaint and dispute rights.
What this message means
X decided your account broke the X Rules. You can usually still log in, because X's appeal form needs you to be logged in to the suspended account. Other people see a suspension notice on your profile. Some suspensions are temporary, others are meant to be permanent. The banner does not always say which.
What it does not mean
- "After careful review" does not prove a person looked at your case. Ask about automated tools in your complaint.
- It does not mean the suspension is permanent unless X says so.
- It does not take away your right to challenge the decision.
What to do now
- Screenshot the banner and your profile as others see it. Note the date.
- Check your email for a message from X naming the rule or the post.
- File an appeal through the link in the app or X's appeal form. Keep it short: what happened, why it is wrong.
- Follow any instructions in the banner, such as deleting a post or confirming a phone number. These are sometimes required before X lifts a limit.
- Request your data. X's help pages link a separate request form for suspended accounts.
- Do not use another account to post. X treats that as getting around a suspension.
If X says the suspension is permanent, read X permanently banned.
The EU route
If you live in the EU, the Digital Services Act (DSA) applies:
- X must give you a clear statement of reasons: the facts, the rule, whether automated tools were used, and how to challenge it.
- You can file a free internal complaint for at least six months. It cannot be decided by automated means alone, and a wrong decision must be reversed without undue delay.
- User Rights is a certified dispute body that lists X. You can go there without the internal complaint first. Decision within 90 days of receiving your complaint. If you win, X pays the fees and your reasonable costs.
- The GDPR gives you a free copy of your data within one month.
- Court stays open.
Outside the EU, X's own appeal form is the main route. More on the X page.
Watch out for scams
Accounts replying "DM me to fix your suspension" are scams. Never share your password or login codes, and never pay anyone to lift a suspension.
