X error: Your account is suspended and is not permitted to perform this action

This error means X has suspended your account and blocks actions such as posting, replying, following or liking. It often appears in the app or in a tool that posts for you, before you have even seen a banner. Log in to X in a browser to read the banner, then appeal through X's form. If you live in the EU, you also have free complaint and dispute rights.

Where you see this error

People type this message into Google because it pops up mid-action, not as a full-screen notice:

In every case it is X's own answer. The app or tool cannot fix it. What matters is the state of the account itself.

Suspended or only locked?

Open x.com in a browser and log in. The banner tells you which one it is.

If there is no banner at all and only one tool shows the error, reconnect the tool and check its permissions before you appeal anything.

What to do now

  1. Screenshot the error and the banner on x.com. Note the date, your handle and what you were trying to do.
  2. Check your email for a message from X naming the rule or the post.
  3. Appeal while logged in. X's help says to log in to the suspended account first, then open the appeal form in a new browser tab. Say in a few lines what happened and why the suspension is wrong.
  4. Stop the tools. Pause scheduled posts and automations, so they do not keep hitting the error.
  5. Request your data through X's form for suspended accounts.
  6. Do not post from another account to get around the block. X treats that as evading a suspension.

The EU route

If you live in the EU, the Digital Services Act (DSA) applies to X's decision:

Outside the EU, X's appeal form is the main route. More on the X page.

Watch out for scams

Replies and DMs promising to "remove the error" or "unsuspend you fast" are scams. Never share your password or login codes, and never pay anyone to lift a suspension.

Questions people ask

Why can I read X but not post or follow?

The error appears when you try an action that a suspended account cannot do. Open X in a browser and log in: the banner there tells you whether the account is suspended or only locked, and what X wants from you.

My scheduling tool says my X account is suspended. Is it?

Tools that post for you pass on X's own answer, often worded as not permitted to access this feature. The tool cannot fix it. Log in to X directly to see the banner, then appeal there if the account is suspended.

Is this error the same as a locked X account?

No. X describes a locked account as temporarily restricted, for example unable to post for a set time or until you confirm some details. A suspension blocks much more and needs an appeal. The banner after login tells you which one you have.

Can I delete or deactivate a suspended X account?

X's help says that to deactivate a suspended account you first need to file an appeal. If you want your posts and data, request a copy first, since you cannot get it back once the account is gone.
