LinkedIn business account restricted?
Updated 21 October 2026
If a LinkedIn restriction is hurting your business, act on two tracks at once: challenge the decision through the route LinkedIn offers, and protect what you can, such as your company page, clients and records. If you live in the EU, the Digital Services Act applies and the P2B Regulation may give you extra rights as a business user. Keep a dated log of lost income from day one.
Who this page is for
LinkedIn is a business tool for many people. This page fits you if a restriction affects:
- a company page you administer
- a Campaign Manager ad account or running campaigns
- paid seats such as Sales Navigator or Recruiter
- your work as a recruiter, consultant, coach or founder who finds clients through LinkedIn
Most of these run through a personal profile. LinkedIn's help pages say an ad account can even be put on hold when one of its users has a restricted profile, until that user is removed from the ad account. Check each tool to see what still works.
Protect the business first
- Company page admins. Check whether another person still has admin rights. If you work in a team, ask a colleague to confirm the page is still controlled. In future, keep at least two trusted admins.
- Ad campaigns. If only the ad account is restricted, read the notice in Campaign Manager. It is often tied to a specific ad or policy. Pause related ads and fix the issue before appealing.
- Clients and candidates. Tell them by email that your LinkedIn is temporarily unavailable. Move urgent conversations to email or phone.
- Paid seats. Note what you are paying for and cannot use. Ask LinkedIn support about billing while the account is restricted.
Do not open a second profile to keep the business running. It can be treated as evading the restriction and may affect the company page as well.
Keep a loss log
Start a simple document today and add to it as you go:
- date and time of the restriction
- campaigns paused and their planned results
- client meetings or hires you could not complete
- subscription fees paid for tools you could not use
- screenshots of each notice and every reply
Write only what you can back up. A short, accurate log is worth more than a big estimate.
Your rights as an EU business user
If you live or are established in the EU:
- DSA statement of reasons. LinkedIn must explain the restriction clearly: the facts, the rule, whether automation was used and how to challenge it.
- Internal complaint. Free, for at least six months from the day you were told about the decision.
- Certified dispute body. User Rights lists LinkedIn. The body must decide within 90 days of receiving your complaint. If you win, LinkedIn pays the fees and your reasonable costs.
- P2B Regulation. It may apply if you use LinkedIn as a business to reach customers. Where it applies, you get a statement of reasons when restricted or suspended, and at least 30 days' notice before termination, with exceptions.
- GDPR. You can request a copy of your personal data, which helps rebuild contact lists.
Outside the EU, LinkedIn's own appeal and its advertising support are your main routes.
If the appeal fails
Read LinkedIn appeal denied for the next steps. If income is substantial, consider legal advice alongside a dispute body. For the full overview, see the LinkedIn hub.

What you stand to lose
A ban on LinkedIn takes more than a profile. Think about what is on the account before you decide what to do.
- Years of photos, videos and posts you may not have saved anywhere else
- Messages and contacts, sometimes the only way you reach certain people
- The followers, subscribers or community you built
- Income: sales, sponsorships, payouts and the customers who find you there
- Other apps and sites where you sign in with this account
On LinkedIn specifically
- LinkedIn's privacy policy says it may keep some of your data even after the account is closed, for example to prevent abuse when it has restricted the account.
Deadlines that are already running
- Complaint to LinkedIn: open for at least six months from the day LinkedIn told you about the decision (DSA Art. 20).
- Copy of your data: free, and LinkedIn must answer within one month of your request (GDPR Art. 15). It is worth asking now.
Questions people ask
What happens to my LinkedIn company page if my personal account is restricted?
Company pages are managed through personal profiles. If yours is the only admin profile and it is restricted, you may lose control of the page. Adding a second trusted admin in advance is the best protection.
Can LinkedIn restrict my ad account separately from my profile?
Yes. Ad accounts in Campaign Manager can be restricted for advertising policy reasons while your profile stays active. The notice in Campaign Manager or by email should say which policy LinkedIn relied on.
Does the P2B Regulation protect LinkedIn business users?
It may. The EU P2B Regulation gives business users of online intermediation services a statement of reasons for restrictions and, with exceptions, 30 days' notice before termination. Whether it covers your LinkedIn use depends on the facts.
Can I claim lost income from LinkedIn?
That is a question for a lawyer and depends on your situation. What you can do now is keep an accurate log of what you lost and when. If a dispute body decides in your favour, LinkedIn pays the fees and your reasonable costs for that procedure.
