Facebook says: We suspended your account
We suspended your account
"We suspended your account" on Facebook means Meta has blocked your profile and started a countdown. If you do not disagree before the time runs out, the notice says your account will be permanently disabled. Tap the option to disagree now, screenshot the notice, and download your information if it is offered.
What this message means
Meta decided your account or activity on it breaks Facebook's Community Standards. During the suspension, your profile is hidden and you cannot use Facebook. The notice shows how many days are left to respond. This is the stage where your own reaction matters most, because the account still exists and the review is still open.
What it does not mean
- It is not the end. The countdown is there so you can challenge the decision.
- It does not mean everyone who managed a Page with you is also suspended.
- It does not mean the reason is correct. Hacked accounts and wrong automated matches end up here too.
What to do now
- Screenshot the notice with the date and the days left.
- Tap the option to appeal in the notice, and go through every step.
- Confirm your identity if Meta asks, but only inside the Facebook app or on facebook.com.
- Explain briefly if there is a text field: what the account is for and why the decision is wrong.
- Download your information if the option appears.
- Mark the deadline in your calendar. Note the date you appealed.
- Do not create a new profile while this one is suspended.
If the countdown has already ended, read Facebook account disabled.
The EU route
If you live in the EU, the Digital Services Act (DSA) adds rights on top of the in-app review:
- Meta must give a clear statement of reasons: the facts, the rule, whether automated tools were used, and how to challenge it.
- You get a free internal complaint for at least six months from the day you were told about the decision. It cannot be decided by automated means alone, and a wrong decision must be reversed without undue delay.
- You can go to a certified dispute body like Appeals Centre Europe, User Rights or Platform Control, all of which list Facebook. You do not have to use the internal complaint first. It decides within 90 days of receiving your complaint.
- Under the GDPR you can ask for a free copy of your personal data within one month.
- Court stays open.
Outside the EU, the disagree option in the notice is your main route. More on the Facebook page.
Watch out for scams
After a suspension, fake support pages and "hackers for hire" often get in touch. Meta does not contact you through comments or random DMs. Never share your password or codes, and never pay for recovery.
Questions people ask
What is the difference between suspended and disabled on Facebook?
In Meta's current notices, suspended is the stage where you can still disagree before a deadline. If you do not respond in time, the notice says the account will be permanently disabled. Both are decisions you can challenge.
Why does Facebook ask me to confirm my identity?
Meta may ask you to confirm your identity first, for example with a code or a photo of an ID document. Only upload documents inside the official Facebook app or website, never to a link sent by someone else.
Can friends see my profile while it is suspended?
Facebook's help pages say a suspended account isn't visible to anyone. Messages you sent before may still be visible to the people you sent them to.
